New Partnership with Advantage Africa to Support School Transitions for Disabled Youth in Kenya

The news

The COSARAF Charitable Foundation is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Advantage Africa, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by poverty, disability, and HIV in East Africa. This collaboration will focus on a critical issue: the transition from school to adulthood for young people with intellectual disabilities in Kenya.

Children with intellectual disabilities in Kenya often face significant challenges, including discrimination and low expectations from society, which can severely limit their opportunities. Although access to education has improved, the transition from school to adult life remains a neglected area, leaving many young people ‘stuck’ in school or dropping out without any meaningful future plans.

Through this partnership, we will support Advantage Africa’s Transition Project, which aims to ensure that these young people can move successfully from school to adult life. The project will provide practical skills-based learning, emotional preparation, and support for sustainable income-generating activities. Each student will receive a personalised transition plan, and ongoing support will be provided to monitor and encourage their progress.

The project has already seen success in its initial phases, with students like Mbatha and Martin, who have successfully transitioned to independent and productive lives through livestock rearing and other activities. With our support, Advantage Africa aims to expand the project, reaching 50 more school leavers and their families in 2024 to 2025.

We are proud to partner with Advantage Africa in this vital work, helping to empower some of Kenya’s most vulnerable young people and their families. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to education, enterprise, support for disadvantaged communities, and the belief that every young person, regardless of their background or abilities, deserves the opportunity to succeed.
