Fahmida Begum Foundation Champions Inclusivity with Annual Sports Day and IT Lab Launch

In partnership with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Sindh, the Fahmida Begum Foundation successfully held the first Inclusive Annual Sports Day 2024-25, championing inclusivity and diversity in education. The event, held at the Government Special Education and Rehabilitation Centre, provided a unique platform for students with disabilities to compete alongside their mainstream peers, fostering a spirit of unity and empowerment.

More than 300 students from Fahmida Begum School and the Government Special Education and Rehabilitation Centre, Zaman Town, Korangi, participated in a series of sports activities, showcasing their skills, enthusiasm, and teamwork. The event kicked off with an inspiring performance by the Fahmida Begum School band, setting the stage for a day of celebration and achievement.

The Chief Guest, Shabana Kausar, Director General of the Sindh Persons with Disabilities Protection Authority, along with Farman Ali, Regional Director Karachi, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, joined the event to honour the participants. Winners were awarded medals in recognition of their dedication and outstanding performances. Parents, teachers, supporters of the Fahmida Begum Foundation, and community members also attended, contributing to a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere. Women beneficiaries from the Foundation’s Imarah Women’s Empowerment Programme played an active role in the festivities by setting up food stalls, adding to the celebratory spirit.

A key highlight of the day was the inauguration of a fully furnished IT lab at the Government Special Education and Rehabilitation Centre, Zaman Town, Korangi. This state-of-the-art facility, donated by the Fahmida Begum Foundation, is designed to enhance digital literacy and support inclusive education for students with disabilities. The IT lab was officially inaugurated by Chief Guest Shabana Kausar, alongside the Trustees of Fahmida Begum Foundation and COSARAF trustee Rukhsana Sheikh and Dr. Sheikh Idris, President of the Foundation.

The event concluded on a high note, celebrating the collective efforts of all involved in promoting education, empowerment, and inclusivity. Through initiatives like this, Fahmida Begum Foundation continues to drive meaningful change, ensuring equal opportunities for all.
