The news
On Saturday, 15th March 2025, the COSARAF Charitable Foundation hosted its third annual Open Iftar in partnership with the Ramadan Tent Project at SOAS University of London. The event brought together approximately 200 guests, including COSARAF partners, Sheikh family scholars from St Anne’s College, Oxford, and Warwick University and peers, fostering an atmosphere of unity and interfaith dialogue.
Family member, Zak Sheikh, delivered an engaging keynote speech on the theme of connections, emphasizing the importance of building and nurturing relationships within communities. He highlighted how such gatherings strengthen bonds and promote understanding among diverse groups.
Shamil Thakrar, co-founder of Dishoom, shared poignant reflections on the historical connections between Muslims and Hindus. He envisioned a future where people of both faiths come together to share meals and celebrate harmony, underscoring the role of food in bridging cultural divides.

The evening featured a beautiful recitation of the Adhan by Hassen Rasool, marking his third consecutive year leading the call to prayer at the event. Imam Abid led the prayers with eloquence, enhancing the spiritual ambiance of the gathering.
The COSARAF-sponsored Open Iftar has quickly become a cherished Ramadan tradition for the Foundation’s partners, supporters, and beneficiaries. These events provide a safe space for individuals of all faiths to come together in peace and understanding, reflecting the true spirit of Ramadan.

Building on the success of this year’s event, COSARAF plans to collaborate further with the Ramadan Tent Project to host even larger and more inclusive gatherings in the future. A special thank you is extended to the Team Teal volunteers from the Ramadan Tent Project for their seamless coordination and dedication to making the event a success.
As the COSARAF Foundation continues to champion stronger communities and interfaith engagement, we look forward to hosting more gatherings that strengthen connections, encourage understanding, and bring people together.
We are grateful to all who attended and made the evening special. We look forward to welcoming everyone again at next year’s COSARAF Open Iftar!
