Muhammad Umair – Oxford Pakistan Programme Studentship
Muhammad is in his first year studying for a DPhil in Biology at the Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial research.
He holds a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a MPhil in Microbiology from the University of Faisalabad. He comes from a humble village (Rasool Nagar) near Faisalabad in Pakistan. Some of his fees are being covered by a scholarship from the Government of Punjab.
He describes his research focus as: i) molecular epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance in food animals in Pakistan; and ii) in vivo bacterial acquisition of resistance genes in response to evolutionary pressure and their fitness cost on pathogenicity and survivability.
