Laili cares for her grandson Mahfuj who has Cerebral Palsy. Mahfuj’s father left them when Mahfuj was just two years old, re-married and started a new family. Mahfuj’s Mother could not cope and moved away to find work and start a new life herself. Laili was left to care for Mahfuj on her own.
Mahfuj was one of four children to be fitted with ankle foot orthoses as part of COSARAF’s Ramadan Fund, allowing him to stand independently. Laili said of the impact this has had on her: “Before, Mahfuj could not stand alone, I had to hold him, which was very hard for me. Now he can stand with this support, which has greatly reduced my physical stress and pain, so I give heartfelt thanks for this support for Mahfuj.”
